Smith JohnSMITH, John Allan Smith   -  "Jack" or "Uncle Jack" to his nieces and nephews, passed away peacefully in his sleep May 27, 2023, in Newmarket, ON, in his 95th year.

He was born in Toronto on April 20, 1929.

Son of the late John D. and Jessie L. Smith, Jack is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy; their sons, Ted (Cathy), David (Joanne) and Richard (Stacey); grandchildren, Courtney, Danielle, Carly, Jack and Samantha; and brother, Bruce. Predeceased by sisters, Jean Butler and Eileen Gradeen; and brother, Doug.

Jack joined his father J.D. Smith in the cartage and warehousing business out of high school, later joined by his brother, Doug.

Over the next 42 years, Jack helped build a lasting foundation for J.D. Smith & Sons Limited, and was present in 2019 for the company's 100th anniversary celebrations.

Jack led a remarkable and full life, enriched by an incredible circle of family and friends.

This included many summers he and Dorothy spent entertaining at the family cottage on North Bay, Honey Harbour, in the Smith family since 1924, and many memorable winter trips to the Caribbean, Florida, and Hilton Head, S.C. Jack was just about the last remaining of that once very large circle.

An announcement on the details of a Celebration Of Life will be forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer Society (support. alzheimer.ca) in Jack's name.
