GILGAN, Paul Francis -
September 16, 1952 - June 5, 2023
Paul passed away gently at Princess Margaret Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He refused to let this disease get in the way of his love of life and food. Yes, even hospital food.
Throughout his illness, Paul's family and cherished friends shared memories of, and gained insights into, each other's lives. To the end, he found joy in being out in the sun and the early summer breezes.
Middle of seven children, Paul never stood still, starting a successful business in Alberta while still in his 20s. He was a favourite uncle to 24 nieces and nephews and their partners, and 36 great-nieces and nephews.
Son of Mary Gilgan (nee Cachia) (soon to be 101), and the late Edward Gilgan, he will be deeply missed by his siblings: John (Carolyn), Mary Louise Winkels (Fritz), Peter, Peggy Schreader (Don), Michelle Dermody (Ron Robb), and Martha Holt (Brad Lewis).
The family is most grateful to his many nurses and doctors, both at Toronto General Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital, for their outstanding care and compassion. Special thanks to Jhes, his caregiver, for bringing a sense of calm during his sickness, and to Miyo, always a ray of sunshine in Paul's journey.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Neweduk-Erin Mills Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga, on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 2300 Burnhamthorpe Rd., Mississauga, on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 3 p.m.
