OSEGUEDA, Juan Antonio Osegueda

OSEGUEDA, Juan Antonio Osegueda  -  71, passed away on June 1, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

He was born to parents Santos Alfredo and Maria Alicia Osegueda in Santiago Texacuangos, El Salvador on December 5, 1952.

Juan Antonio was a lifelong learner, he graduated as a high school teacher in El Salvador, continued to earn a Bachelor’s in social studies from the university of San Salvador, studied in Venezuela, completed a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic and completed a Master of Theology and Master in Theological Study from Toronto School of Theology in Toronto.

A friend to Archbishop Oscar Romero; he was also editor of the archdiocesan newspaper “Orientacion”.

He progressed quickly and took on senior roles in the Ministry of Education of El Savador before migrating to Montreal in 1981.

Through a non-profit organization sponsored by CIDA, he directed adult literacy programs in Dominican Republic (1985-89).

In Toronto he was a high school teacher for over 20 years.

He started his career in St. Oscar Romero Catholic Secondary school before transferring over to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Academy (formerly Jean Vanier Catholic High School) where he helped shape many lives and built lifelong connections before retiring in 2015.

As a teacher, he was very involved in the school community through many activities including soccer, Spanish Club, breakfast programs and most notably the annual Multicultural night event and Multicultural Award that carries his name.

He will always be remembered by his kindness and sense of humour. Juan Antonio is survived by his current wife Sandra; his children Alicia (Quinn), Mario, Carmen (Dorelien), Mercedes, Marianela, Mariela; his grandchildren Victoria, Eric, Giselle, Daniel, Amelia, Guadalupe, Carmela, Jheriel, Jhonmar; his step-children Marco and Harold and grandchildren Olivia and Charlotte; loving siblings Maria Mirtala, Felipe Alfredo, Carmen Esperanza, Tomas and many other relatives and friends.
