Samuel Phillips
October 21, 1932 – December 09, 2024
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Sam Phillips, who passed away peacefully at Shepherd Village Lodge at the age of 92.
A loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Sam will be missed by all who knew him. Born and raised in Bonavista, Newfoundland, Sam met the love of his life, Irene Manuel (of Northern Arm, Newfoundland), when they both worked at the hospital in Corner Brook. They married in Toronto and spent 63 wonderful years together, raising a family imbued with strong values of honesty, integrity, and love, setting an inspiring example of devotion to all who knew them.
Sam is predeceased by his beloved wife, Irene, and is survived by his children Glen (Karen), Brian (Mary Anne), Linda; second father to Diane (Kurt); his grandchildren Dayna, Lauren (Andrew), Dhillon, and Braeden; and two great-grandchildren.
Sam worked with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) for 35 years and was also a dedicated volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society. Known for his infectious laugh, humor, and caring attitude, Sam left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Whether playing cribbage—where he frequently bested his opponents—or helping others at the drop of a hat, Sam was a man of boundless energy and goodwill.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Shepherd Village Lodge for their compassionate care and for making Sam feel comfortable during his time there. A private celebration of life will be planned for the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sam's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be deeply appreciated.
