Widgett RonaldWIDGETT, Ronald Almer   -

April 4, 1935 - November 13, 2023

Ronald Almer Widgett died peacefully, on November 13, 2023, after a long battle with congestive heart failure and kidney disease.

He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 70 years; his sons, Brian (Elaine) and Steven; his grandchildren, Ian (Amy), Keith, Samantha (Ryan), Conor and Catherine; and 3 great-grandsons, Ciaran, Theo, and Emmet. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

He also has a dear and special aunt, Alice Bolton of Bruce Mines.

Ron was predeceased by his mother, Jennie May (Bolton); father, Almer Allison Widgett; and brother, Albert Widgett. Ron was born on April 4, 1935, growing up in the City of Toronto.

He met Margaret in 1950, at age 15, through his best friend, Bill Gilmour (Margaret's older brother).

By 1952, they were engaged and married on July 4, 1953.

Ron joined the Toronto Fire Department in August of 1957 and was promoted to Captain, retiring in 1993 after a long and rewarding career of 36 years.

Ron and Margaret enjoyed travelling and were able to visit many places but enjoyed their winters in Florida the most. Their cottage on Eel's Lake was always a special place.

After retiring, Ron and Margaret moved to Port Perry and enjoyed 20 wonderful years with many friends and family at Canterbury Commons before moving to a retirement home in Whitby.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Kidney Foundation, or any other charity of your choice will be appreciated by the family.
