Johnson SarahJOHNSON, Sarah "Sally" Cecilia - August 28, 1923 - October 23, 2018

Sally passed away quietly after a brief illness and a long and fulfilling life.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Roderick, her son Ricky and her granddaughter Alanah, Sally is survived by her children: Allan (Linda), Mary (Bob), Donalda, Linda (Rick) and Michael (Lisa) and her much-loved sister Mary Jane.

Much-loved Nanny to Christine, Lauren, Heather, Derek, Amanda, Christopher, Victoria, Holly, Lexi and Eric and great-grandmother to River.

A proud and independent thinker, she was faced with numerous obstacles in life but was more than up to the challenge as a fighter and survivor.

She proudly served her country in WWII by joining the army when she in her teens.

In her early thirties she was laid low with polio when she was pregnant with her third child.

Hospitalized for two years, she managed, through force of will, to begin walking again and left the hospital with her head held high and her family in tow.

In her early fifties she endured the devastating loss of a much-loved son and still soldiered on with the great love of her life, Roddy. Roddy sadly passed away unexpectedly soon after Sally retired in her sixties after a long and happy career with the Infirmary at Loretto Abbey.

Surrounded by her close family and friends, she persevered with strength and grace, her faith in God undiminished. Eventually life caught up with Sally and she started to slow down in her nineties before her body was just too tired.

Sally will be remembered as a generous, humorous and beloved mother, grandmother and aunt to many nieces and nephews across the country, many of whom she helped when they were ready to start life on their own. It is a testament to her generosity and love that she maintained such a close relationship to her extended family throughout her life, particularly her niece Rachael and her nephew Clem.

Friends may call at the Marshall Funeral Home, Richmond Hill, on Thursday, October 25th from 6-9 p.m. Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of the World Church, 10411 Bayview Ave., Richmond Hill, on Friday at 12 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family we kindly ask you to direct "in memoriam" donations to Hill House Hospice, 36 Wright St., Richmond Hill, ON L4C 4A1.
