Nancy Ship
March 24, 2025
In Montreal, surrounded by her family and friends, on Monday, March 24th, 2025, in her ninety-sixth year. Beloved wife and best friend of Harold Ship for over sixty years. Proud and devoted mother and mother-in-law of Martin Ship and Don Kinder, Heidi Ship, Steven Ship and Chantae Vetrice, and Annabelle Ship and the late John Sanders. Only child of the late David Solomon (Solomovitch) and the late Bella (Belle) Rosenthal.
Born in Montreal, Quebec, Nancy was one of Quebec’s first Speech Language Pathologists and a strong advocate for language-delayed children and their parents. She was a founding member of the Speech and Hearing Association of Quebec. Nancy worked professionally well into her eighties, was a life-long learner, energetic colleague, and curious world traveler. Growing up above her mother’s dress store in Montreal’s golden mile, Nancy was educated at the High School of Montreal, McGill University, and the University of Michigan.
Nancy was a committed and generous friend. Her many friendships spanned generations and geography. Heartfelt thanks to the group of committed caregivers that allowed Nancy to thrive and live independently at her home: Wendy Fontellio, Samantha Pierre, Thelma Marshall, Nikky Odogivon, Cheryl Baxter, and the CLSC workers.
The funeral service will be held from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., Montreal, on Friday, March 28th, at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Ship Family Circle Cemetery, de la Savane. Shiva will be held at her home in Westmount, Quebec.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Donald Berman Yaldei Developmental Center (514-279-3666), or the Zera Cafe (514-734-1640).
Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel.
