Dunbar ShirleyDUNBAR, Shirley Ellen (nee LEINO)  -  With sadness, we announce the passing of Shirley Dunbar on May 15, 2024.

 

Shirley was born in South Porcupine on July 18, 1936 and resided in Toronto, Ontario.

 

She was the cherished wife of John Dunbar for 59 years; and beloved sister of Deanna Green.

 

She will be greatly missed by her extended family, including her sisters-in-law, Charlene Renton and Adrianne Dunbar; and brothers-in-law, Brian Green and Derryk Renton.

Affectionately referred to as Shi-Shi, Shirley was blessed with 9 nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and nephews; and 5 great-great-nieces and nephews, with whom she adored spending time.

 

She was predeceased by her parents, Sylvia and Eino Leino. Shirley enjoyed a rewarding career that included working for Toronto City Hall.

 

Her most memorable role was as secretary to the Head Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1960s. Shirley celebrated two Stanley Cup wins with the organization.

 

In her retirement years, Shirley enjoyed travelling and spending time in Huntsville with her husband at their cottage. She was a wonderful cook and her kitchen table was a welcome place for all visitors.

 

Shirley's family extends its heartfelt thanks to her caregiver, Conchita, and to the staff at the Rekai Centre Sherbourne Place for their dedication to her care.

 

Her loss will be deeply felt by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of her Life will be held at a future date. In honour of her memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
