MOWDER, Sidney Charles -
June 22, 1935 - March 3, 2024 After a lifetime of service to his family, friends and community, Sidney Charles ("Sid") Mowder passed away peacefully, at Joseph Brant Hospital, surrounded by family on Sunday, March 3, 2024.
Sid is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Bette (nee Bell); brother, Jim (Jan); and sister, Doreen Peacock (Doug); sons, Steven (Karen) and Robert (Sandra); grandchildren, Stephanie (Robert), Ryan (Natalie), Katelin and Evan.
Sid was blessed with and adored his great-grandchildren, Malcom and Scottie.
He was predeceased by his father, Clarence; mother, Janet; and brother, Ken. He was lovingly called "Uncle Sid" by many and friend by many more.
Sid was intensely proud of his entire family, and his love for Bette who he lovingly called "kid" was that of a fairytale. To know Sid is to know the last thing he would talk about was himself.
A dedicated Rotarian for five decades, including St. Catharines, Florida, North York, and Burlington. Sid's involvement spanned everything from building hospitals abroad to managing Rotary Exchange programs (including hosting several students) and much more.
He was involved in new club charters, served various leadership roles, and managed numerous events.
Sid was recognized many times for his contributions to Rotary, including several Paul Harris awards, for which he was very proud.
Sid had a distinguished accounting career in the public sector, with senior Finance positions in the Cities of Oshawa and North York, Durham and Niagara Regions, and the North York Library.
The impact of his leadership is evident across Ontario even today.
A private cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be planned for late Spring. Please email Steve.Mowder@RaffleMG.ca if you would like to receive the event details once confirmed.
In keeping with Sid's support of worthy charitable causes, memorial contributions can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the SickKids Foundation.
