Jane Wylie Strother (Hardie)
February 14, 1937 – February 20, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jane Wylie Strother on February 20, 2025.
She was predeceased by the love of her life, Gordon, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, adventure,
and unwavering devotion. Their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them, and she carried his memory with her always.
Born on February 14, 1937, in Galashiels, Scotland, Jane met Gordon at a Saturday night dance in her hometown
when she was just 16 years old—a cherished story she often recounted with fondness. They married in 1956 and
shortly thereafter moved to Canada, where they built a life together.
Jane had a long and distinguished career with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, where she held
a leadership role and was highly respected for her dedication, professionalism, and guidance. Beyond her career,
she was deeply involved in her community, always eager to lend a helping hand. Jane also found immense joy in
traveling the world alongside Gordon and, above all, treasured time spent with her family, creating lasting
memories and nurturing the connections that meant the most to her.
Jane is survived by her loving children, Linda, Carol (Michael), and Glen; her cherished grandchildren,
Renee (Jake), Sean, Ryan (Morgan), Nicholas, and Madison; and her adored great-grandchildren,
Riley, McKennah, and Maeve. She was predeceased by her siblings, Chris and Isabelle, and is survived by her
dear sister Anne, as well as her many nieces and nephews in Scotland.
Though Jane has left this world, her warmth, generosity, and the love she shared, especially with Gordon,
will always remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A visitation will be held at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. N., Whitby, on Friday,
February 28, 2025, from 12:00 PM until the time of service in the Barnes Chapel at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jane’s memory may be made to the
Heart and Stroke Foundation
or the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region.
She will remain forever in our hearts.
Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at
Barnes Memorial Funeral Home.
