THOM, Douglas Thom - It is with enduring love that we announce the peaceful passing of Douglas Thom on July 18, 2024, in his 85th year.
Doug was a respected, caring educator and an accomplished and talented athlete.
His genial and fun-loving nature brought laughter and light into the lives of many, creating happy and lasting memories for those fortunate to have crossed his path.
Born and raised in St. Catharines, he later moved with his family to Cleveland. Doug attended Temple University, Philadelphia, and eventually returned to Ontario, graduating from University of Toronto.
Beginning his career teaching in Muskoka, he later relocated to the GTA, spending over three decades working with the Peel District School Board in various capacities. Doug's focus was always family.
He spent decades labouring to turn a humble cottage on Fletcher Lake into a cherished family treasure.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lyndsey; his sons, Stewart (Jackie) and Fraser (Heather); and his grandchildren, Kate, Adam, Brendan, Arthur and Graeme, whose lives have been greatly enriched by Grandpa's unwavering love, support and encouragement.
He will be missed by all. Donations in Doug's memory may be made to Ian Anderson Hospice, Oakville, whose compassion and care for Doug were of immeasurable comfort to both him and his family.
