THOMAS, Diane Flora Thomas
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Diane Thomas, on July 1, 2024. She passed away quietly in her sleep. Diane was born on April 14, 1940.
Diane was a selfless individual who gave endlessly to everyone around her. She was both a learner and a teacher, an open-minded soul whose life-earned wisdom attracted many. Diane was predeceased by Big Hugh and will be deeply missed by her loving family: Hugh (Maria), Geoff (Caroline), and Susie (Scott).
Diane, known as Gramma to her seven grandchildren, was devoted to Sarah, Christian, Peter, Abby, Hannah, Katie, and Ella. Her obliging nature, unwavering support, and loving energy will forever remain in their hearts.
Beyond her roles as Mom and Gramma, Diane was a remarkable leader. She served as the President of the Clarkson-Lorne Park Lacrosse Association, the head librarian of the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, and the creator of the Beaches Inter-Faith Outreach Program, even driving her own van to and from the food bank. Diane was known for her determination and willingness to roll up her sleeves to get things done.
Despite her many achievements, Diane led a simple and fulfilling life. She loved reading and began each day at dawn with the Globe and Mail. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and cherished her own company. Diane was known for her small, thoughtful gestures that often went unannounced.
Diane embraced life with a philosophy to "act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your Lord."
A visitation memorial to celebrate Diane’s life will be held at the Oshawa Dignity Funeral Home, 847 King Street West, Oshawa, on Saturday, July 13, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
