Sturino MarySTURINO, Mary Emma   - August 31, 1928 - October 9, 2021

Mary was born and raised in the Junction; her parents Carmen and Teresa Prezio were hardworking immigrants from Calabria, Italy.

Mary had four brothers and a strong bond with each of them and had a special relationship with Frank and his wife Janet.

They travelled together and spent many days on the senior bus to the casino.

Mary met her husband Otty at a local dance and their romance began.

They were wed on April 3, 1948 and were blessed with four children Jim (Carole), Ron (Brenda), Larry (Dian) and Rick(Caroline).

Chunakov BorisCHUMAKOV, Boris Theodore - 83, of Toronto, Ontario passed away on Saturday October 9, 2021, at Hospice Vaughan after a brief, but devastating illness.

He was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia and emigrated to Canada in 1954, settling in London, Ontario and eventually Montreal, Quebec and Toronto, Ontario. He taught high school social studies in Montreal and retired as a senior scholar after 28 years at York University.

Boris is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joanne (nee Miller), his daughter Elizabeth Galitzine, son Michael Chumakov, son-in-law Gregorii, daughter-in-law Melissa and grandchildren Peter, Ksenia and Theodore Galitzine and Ariadna and Ilya Chumakov.

Cowan ToniCOWAN, Toni   -  Peacefully with her family by her side, Antoinette "Toni" Noreen Cowan (nee France), passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021, in her 84th year.

Predeceased by her husband, Peter Cowan and her beloved daughter, Laura.

She will be forever loved by her daughter Lesley (Scott), her grandchildren Cheryl, Ashleigh, Jennifer (Colin), Cameron (Liza), and all of her great-grandchildren Brooke, Austin, Preston, Jessica, Emily, Danny, Sophie and Louie.

Toni will be lovingly and always remembered by her sister Karen, niece Kimberley, her extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at LaSalle retirement community in Burlington where she was lovingly cared for, for the last six years.

Thank you to the staff at Cama Woodlands who gave her comfort in her final days.

Jim was the beloved husband of Velma Grace (Hills) for 64 years.

Loving father of Cyndra McGoldrick (Karen Rumball), Greg Frangakis (Larissa), and Brad Frangakis (Carol).

Cherished grandfather of Steve (late Lynsey), Ryan (Samantha), Elise (Dylan), Carley (Jordan), Kimberley (Vuk), Kaitlyn, Chanel (Adam), and Savanna (Josh).

Great-grandfather of Aubrey. Jim was formerly an Employee of Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Rexdale, ON; North American Rockwell, Columbus, Ohio; A.V. Roe, Malton, ON, and attended the University of Detroit for Aeronautical Engineering.

SORENSEN, Tove    -  February 3, 1924 - October 9, 2021

Tove Toft Sorensen passed away peacefully, in Ottawa on Saturday, October 9, 2021.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Hans in 2016, and leaves behind her son Soren (Betsy).

Tove will be missed by family and friends in Denmark and Canada.

She looked forward to visits and telephone conversations with many longtime friends.

Special thanks to the Glebe Centre staff and volunteers for the care and companionship that she received there.

Springle WilliamSPRINGLE, William "Bill"   -  On October 9, Bill Springle (89) passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Loving husband to Doreen, father to Cheryl (David) Wiseman, Stephen (Anne) and Gordon (Magda), grandfather to Salem, Olivia, Madeline, Rachel and William, brother to Libby (Bernie) Racinsky and Margaret Springle.

He is predeceased by his parents Jozef and Vlasta Springle and his brother Charlie. Born February 6, 1932 in Czechoslovakia, Bill's family immigrated two years later to Minitonas, Manitoba.

A move was made to Burlington, Ontario during his teenage years.

Marrying Doreen in 1958, family life expanded and also many opportunities came to use his talents in singing, teaching and leadership at the Toronto Czechoslovak, then Bramalea and Maple Avenue (Georgetown) Baptist Churches.

TYNAN, Kevin Anthony    -  June 5, 1951 - October 9, 2021

Arrived from Templemore, County Tipperary, Ireland on May 28, 1972.

Son of Michael and Margaret Tynan (both deceased).

Brother of Mary Cavanna (deceased) (Luigi), Peggy Freeman, Mike (deceased), Joe (Rena), Jimmy (Susan Montemiglio), and Claire Hodgson (Bill deceased).

Cook CarolCOOK, Carol Ann (Sooaru) - 55, of Toronto, went home to be with Jesus on October 9, 2021.  Her loss was completely unexpected and the family is shocked and deeply saddened. Carol passed away while sleeping quietly.

Carol is predeceased by her father Voldemar Sooaru and mother Mary Sooaru. 

She is survived by her husband Stephen Cook, brother David Sooaru, son James Sooaru, and granddaughter Skylar Sooaru-Armstrong. 

TEMPLETON, Doprothy (PORTER)   -  Dorothy (Doe), 93, passed away on October 9, 2021, at Providence Unity with her daughter Linda at her side, after a long battle with Alzheimer's and more recently cancer.

Dorothy was born December 28, 1927 to Elizabeth and George Porter in Holywood, Ireland.

Rowntree RuthROWNTREE, Ruth (YOUNG)   - Ruth died on October 9, 2021 and has been cremated.

Her wishes were for a private family remembrance.

She leaves three daughters, Lenore, Beth and Patricia, two sons-in-law, Jeff and Chris, and loving memories of her husband Gideon Rowntree.

FRYDBERG, Anne (Chana) (nee Kleiner) - Born 12/12/24 in Sosnowitz, Poland. Died October 8, 2021.

Anne, predeceased by Elek Frydberg both being Holocaust survivors who settled in Israel prior to coming to Canada, was a loving wife, and mother to Ester and Morrie, along with the much-loved arrival of Rosalind.
