McMAHON, Irene Nadine (nee CZERNIAWSKI)  - Irene died peacefully in London on August 3, 2018 following a brief illness.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter and survived by her daughter Patricia (Trish) McMahon; son-in-law, Kevin Ackhurst; and two grandsons, Jack and Max, whom she cherished.

Irene loved her family, adored her pets and was a voracious reader.

She was an avid consumer of the news and in her later years delighted at sharing all manner of information via email.

Irene enjoyed nothing more than a long family dinner with great food and fine conversation, capped by a cup - or two - of coffee. Born in 1937 and raised in Toronto, Irene attended Parkdale Collegiate and St. Michael's College at the University of Toronto (5T8).

After graduating with a B.A., she moved to Ottawa to teach English, Mathematics and Home Economics at Rideau Collegiate. Irene met Peter in Ottawa, where he was working at the Auditor General's Office. They married in 1963, and moved to Toronto, where Irene taught at a number of schools, including Heydon Park Secondary School until Trish was born.

As Peter completed a doctorate in Social Work and pursued university teaching, the family returned to Ottawa in 1974 before settling in London in 1976. While Trish was young, Irene was an active community volunteer before finding her passion selling real estate. A small family funeral will be held on August 11, 2018.

Special thanks to the physicians and the staff in the CCU at University Hospital in London, especially Grace, Janice, Jana and Melissa.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Placenta Clinic at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Toronto, a charity that was near and dear to Irene.
