JENNINGS, Donald George - May 5, 1935 - November 3, 2018.
Don was born at home on Kennedy Rd., Milliken. At an early age, his Dad taught him the joys and skills of hunting, fishing and gardening.
He attended S.S. #8 Hagerman Public School on 14th Ave. He met his future wife there during grade 7. Don attended Markham High School on Joseph Street, then Markham District High School on Church Street for grade 13. He attended Niagara Parks Commission to study Horticulture and Landscape Architect.
In 1959, Don married the love of his life, Anna. They had 3 children, Paul (Gail), Mark (Patti), and Karen (Glenn).
Don always loved trees, so it's no wonder that he named his retail business "Shade Tree Nursery", located on Kennedy Rd. beside the old homestead. He wore many hats over the years -- landscape gardener, market gardener, taught Horticulture at Harwood Secondary School, Real Estate and Maintenance Supervisor at Markhaven Home for Seniors.
At age 11, Don committed his life to Jesus at Hageman Mennonite Church. He said it was the best decision he had ever made. Over the years, he served in many capacities of church life -- as Deacon for 45 years, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, S.S. bus driver, Awanas.
He is survived by his wife, Anna of 59 years, 8 grandchildren -- Andrew (Melanie), Greg, Beka, Josh (Alyssa), Alicia, Jake, Breum, Indianna.
He was an avid sports fan -- especially tennis and Roger Federer.
Don will be greatly missed by family and friends. He has left a wonderful legacy for all of us.
Visitation will be held at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home, Markhan on Monday, November 12th, 2018 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 7:00pm - 9:30pm. The service will take place at Markham Missionary Church, 5438 Major Mackenzie Dr E, Markham on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 at 11:00am.
