Genuis MaryGENUIS, Mary Jane Carmen - (1929 - 2019) - Mrs. Mary Jane Carmen Genuis passed from this life to join The Lord in Heaven on August 12, 2019.

The family will receive friends for visitation at Jerrett funeral home (660 Kennedy Road, Scarborough) on Thursday, August 15th between 9:00am and 10:00 am.

Funeral Mass will then be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 15th at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Parish (717 Kennedy Road, Scarborough). Father Edwin Galea officiating.

Mary was born in Gozo, Malta on May 23, 1929, and was the oldest in a family of 8 brothers and sisters. Mary and her husband, John, married on December 26, 1954. Together, in 1955 they immigrated to Canada where they raised a family of four sons and shared 65 years of marriage.

As a registered nurse in Canada for over 40 years and as a volunteer supporting those in prisons, hospitals and churches, Mary made a positive impact in many lives across the country.

Diagnosed with Lupus in 1958, Mary made a seemingly impossible recovery and became a rare survivor of the disease after being informed she had only three months to live. She credited her miraculous recovery to her faith and through an apostle of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu “Frenċ tal-Għarb” in Gozo as he guided her to back to lasting health and the complete eradication of any signs of Lupus, which never returned.

Living another 61 years, and birthing 3 children following her diagnosis, Mary’s faith in our Lord never faltered.

Passionate about family, our Lord and service to our community, Mary raised her four sons: Stephen, Ronald, Mark and Eric as an exceptional and dedicated mother.

Mary is survived by her four sons, 15 grandchildren and (at present) 12 great grandchildren, across Canada and the United States.

Mary’s legacy will continue to live on through the positive impact she’s had on her family as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and through all those she helped as a caring nurse, friend and volunteer.
