LU, Hi - Hi Lu, a man of culture and one who savoured life, passed away on August 12, 2019 at age of 87 in Scarborough, Ontario. He left our world peacefully with his family members at his bedside.
Hi is survived by his wife, Khoan Huu Diep; his daughter in law Thu Ha and grandson Brian. His daughter Ming, her husband, Peter; and their children Samuel and his wife Jasmine; Gertrude and her husband Cossa.
Hi was born in Canton, China on January 7, 1932. Later, he immigrated to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam. There, he met his wife Khoan Huu, and welcomed three loving children into his life. In 1986 he immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario, and eventually settled in Toronto, Ontario, until his death.
Hi was a great husband, father, and grandfather who lived a great life. He was a humorous yet insightful person who enjoyed cracking jokes, talking about life and history. Some of his hobbies were listening to music, playing spoons and playing his harmonica.
He also enjoyed eating good food, including Chinese and Vietnamese cuisines. He loved sweet things (candy, sugar cane, sweet potato, and others), coffee with condensed milk, steeped black tea, pork belly, and his own specially brewed moonshine.
But most of all, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family, watching TV with them, cooking for them, and taking them out to eat. As such, Hi has left a lasting impact on all of his family members and he will always remain in their hearts.
He will not only be missed by his family, but also by his friends and everyone who knew him. Arrangements entrusted with Bay Gardens funeral home, Hamilton.
