Marques JoaoMARQUES, João Maria - It is with great sadness that the family of João announces his passing at Kensington Hospice on August 17, 2019 with his adoring family at his side.

João leaves his cherished wife Delminda, his favourite daughter Liz (Chris), beloved grandsons, James and Jake, and his favourite daughter Lina (Paolo).

He was known as “Ti João” to a plethora of nieces, nephews and extended family, and as “João Grulha” to his many friends.

Orphaned at a young age, João worked hard to support his younger sisters Celene (Carlos) and Alice (Augusto d.) which took him through Portugal and even Paris.

João married Delminda and they moved to Canada to start their family. He was known for his love of life, music and cars, and often told stories from his youth that made him laugh until he cried.

'The twinkle in his eye and mischievous grin will be missed by all those who knew him'.

The Marques family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Kensington Hospice for taking such good care of him in his final days. João was a long time cancer fighter and regular donor to Princess Margaret Hospital where he received treatments.

Visitation will be held at Cardinal Funeral Home, Bathurst Chapel, Toronto on August 18, 2019 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. The service will take place at St Agnes Church, 15 Grace Street, Toronto on August 19, 2019 at 9:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.
