Box CarolynBOX, Mary Carolyn - Passed away peacefully on August 15, 2019 with a caring nurse at her side at the Grace Health Centre in Toronto.

Carolyn was born to Lucy Alexandra Elliott. Her birth mother had moved to Canada from Ireland in 1920. Carolyn was adopted two weeks after birth. In 1988, Carolyn started to petition the Ontario Government to unseal her adoption records. This was quite a task however Carolyn was able to locate and connect with surviving members of her birth family including her step sister Doreen (Bowley) Morgan of Kingston, step nieces Mary Ellen (Peter)Doody, Heather (Eric) van der Wal and cousins from Northern Ireland and England, Gordon(Elizabeth)Purdy, Brian(Angelia)Purdy, Adele (John) Kearney, John Elliott, Yvonne (Philip)Wakelam, Ernest Pimley (deceased).

Her birth family became a loving part of her life and she travelled to Northern Ireland several times to connect with her cousins and investigate her family history.

Carolyn attended The Bishop Strachan School in Toronto class ’48 and graduated with Masters degrees in Education from McGill University and University of Vermont. She taught with the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal before returning to Toronto to become a Guidance Counselor at Havergal College. She subsequently worked in the Department of Chemical Engineering at University of Toronto assisting foreign students with english composition.

A lifelong lover of dogs, she also walked dogs and was an active volunteer in the community.

The family would like to thank the medical team of TGH Acute Care Ward, the nurses at Grace Health Centre, care givers from Brightstar Care and Sprint House Calls for their care and attention to Carolyn.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carolyn may be made to the OVC Pet Trust – Ontario Veterinary College – University of Guelph.

A Celebration of Life for Carolyn will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday August 28, 2019 at Morley Bedford Funeral Services, Toronto.
