Sodhi GaganSODHI, Gagandeep Kaur - It is with profound sadness and grief that we announce the sudden and tragic death of Gagandeep Kaur Sodhi on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, following complications from surgery at Toronto General Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Matthew MacTavish; her children, Kiran (age 4) and Jasmira (age 1); her parents, Jasbir Kaur Sodhi and Dribjot Singh Sodhi; and her brother, Vinder and his wife Sehr.

Gagan graduated from the University of Toronto Material Science Engineering program in 2003. She went on to study marketing at George Brown College and pursued a career in that field with passion. She spent the bulk of her working life ascending through increasingly senior positions first with Intact Insurance Canada and then with TD Canada Trust.

Gagan was an avid traveller who went on many adventures around the world with friends, from shark-cage diving in South Africa to exploring the coast of Newfoundland. And more recently enjoyed numerous trips to Portugal, the UK and Switzerland with her family.

Gagan met her husband Matt in 2010. They fell fast in love and wasted little time building a life, home and family together. They were married in 2013 and were blessed with their son Kiran in 2014 and their daughter Jasmira in 2018.

Gagan was an active member of her neighbourhood and a proud Torontonian, regularly attending neighbourhood and city events. A passionate advocate for social justice and equality, she often made her voice and opinions heard, including through her political engagement and her charitable contributions.

Gagan will be desperately missed by her family and a large circle of friends and colleagues.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Heritage Funeral Centre, Toronto on Friday, September 20, 2019, with a visitation at 3 p.m. and service at 4 p.m., followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your charity of choice.
