Brown EnidBROWN, Enid Marion (nee Rees)  -  At age 93, of Toronto, Ontario, passed away at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday October 16th, 2019 at Cummer Lodge Long Term Residence.

Enid was born on Bell Island, Newfoundland to Ananias and Gertrude Rees on December 18, 1925.  She went to school on Bell Island and after graduating high school, Enid attended nursing school at the Salvation Army Grace Hospital in St. John’s Newfoundland.  Enid graduated with honours as a registered nurse and worked at the Grace Hospital in St. John’s.

Enid met Gordon Brown in Newfoundland and eventually they were married on Bell Island, Newfoundland.  Enid put her career as a nurse on hold to have a family.  Enid, Gordon and children eventually moved to Ontario and settled in North York.  Enid stayed at home to raise the children while Gordon worked for Ontario Hydro as a carpenter.  In 1968, North York General Hospital opened and Enid worked as a devoted nurse at North York General Hospital for 27 years until retirement.  Enid was an accomplished piano player and graduated the Conservatory of Music with honours.  Enid had a passion for skating, dancing and swimming and had an incredible sense of humour.   Enid was devoted to her family, religion/church and was active as a volunteer in many of the church’s activities and fund raising events.

Enid is survived by her daughter Jillian Rees-Brown and son Robert Brown (spouse Anchie) who live in Toronto. Enid has 3 grandchildren: Sarah Hart, Alan Brown and Tesa Tiangco.  She has 3 great grandchildren: Michael Smith, Isabella Hart and Kiana Tiangco. Enid was the 5th in a lineage of 6 children and is survived by her loving sister Doris Budgell and her family, Marsha Hillis, Glen Budgell and Mark Budgell.  In addition, her many nieces and nephews who reside in Ontario, Newfoundland, Alberta and United States.

Enid is preceded in death by her husband Gordon Brown, their twin daughters Arlene-Jean and Andrea-Doris Brown, her parents Ananias and Gertrude Rees and four siblings Gerald Rees, Fred Rees, John Rees and Harold Rees.

A service will be held at St. Matthew the Apostle Oriole Anglican Church, 80 George Henry Blvd, North York, ON. (near Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue East), on Saturday November 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. (Refreshments will be served in the welcome room following the service).

Enid will be returned to her island home (Bell Island) in June 2020 and laid to rest in a family cemetery with her husband, daughters, parents and siblings.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew the Apostle Oriole Anglican Church, North York General Hospital, or a charity of your choice.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Cummer Lodge and a special thank you to Mary Russo and Elsie Ramos who provided Enid with loving attention and care. Also, to Deacon Kyn Barker and Rev. Lisa Newland for their many visits and prayers with Enid.
