Tandy ChrisTANDY, Chris - (September 29, 1962November 17, 2019)

It is with incredible pain and sadness that we announce the sudden death by cardiac arrest of Chris Tandy on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at the age of 57.

A smart, kind, and loving human being, Chris’s love extended from his family to many in his community in his desire to be of service. Chris was the recipient of the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, a Scout Leader, a blood donor for over 25 years, and an active member of Jubilee United Church.

Chris started at IBM as a co-op student in the late 1980’s and held many different roles during his 33-year career. Most recently he was team lead of the IBM COBOL for AIX and Linux compiler projects. He also chaired INCITS/PL22, Programming Languages, and OWG2, the ISO Standards working group creating the next COBOL standard.

Chris also loved to experience nature in all its forms: puttering in his garden, leading the Scouts on camping trips and travelling with his family across Canada and Europe.

Chris will be missed every day by his beloved wife Ann-Marie, his sons Joshua and Liam, his mother Ann, his siblings Carol (Derek), Debbie (Peter) and Keith (Andrea), his father-in-law Stephen, his brother-in-law Laurence (Sandi), sisters-in-law Moara Sarah (Shaun) and Marsha (Mike) and by his nieces Madison and Vanessa, his nephew Noah and his many, many friends. He is predeceased by his father, James, and his mother-in-law Millicent.

We know Chris is now playing footy (soccer) with Dad, portaging with his best friend Wayne and drinking more than one pint of Guinness.

Visitation will be held at Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Road, Toronto, on Thursday, November 28th from 2pm-4pm and 6pm–9pm.

Chris’s funeral service will take place at Jubilee United Church, 40 Underhill Drive, Toronto on Friday, November 29th at 2pm.

If so desired, memorial donations may be made in memory of Chris to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.
