Smith KarinSMITH, Karin  - (May 5, 1940 - November 28, 2019)  -  It is with great sadness and disbelief that we announce the passing of Karin Smith. She tried to stay strong through her months’ long struggle with lung cancer, however could no longer hold on. Karin passed away peacefully at home with her daughter, Sabine and son-in-law Steven, by her side in the early hours of Thursday, November 28th.

Over the past few weeks, her family and friends showed tremendous support, love and generosity which we are sure she felt.

Over the years, Karin has been well known in the Toronto German community and Roncesvalles area as the co-owner of the well-loved, The Old Country Shop. Karin took great pride in running the shop that her father had originally established, with her beloved sister, Helga.

Karin also was incredibly grateful for her marriage of nearly 50 years to her sweetheart, Leonard, who passed 11 years ago. Together they had established a life that they loved, were grateful for and proud of.

Karin will be missed for her honesty, integrity, helpfulness, tenacity and generosity. Her strength, “made in Germany”, as she would say, is admired by many. She was a wonderful mother who always tried to give and do what was best for her Sabine, and the bond that they both share is unbreakable. Dear Karin, you will be missed more than you could ever know. You have touched many lives and you will live in all of our memories forever.

Visitation will be held at Ward Funeral Home, Weston Chapel, 2035 Weston Road, Toronto, on Sunday, December 1st, from 2pm to 4pm and from 6pm to 8pm. Cremation.
