Walton ThelmaWALTON, Thelma Mae (Keates) - Died peacefully at her home at Union Villa, Markham early Saturday November 30, 2019 with her children at her side. She has been called home to her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Predeceased by her great friend and husband Ernest and her brothers Robert and William.

This kind and beautiful soul is missed and survived by her children; Karen, Ross (Lee) and April (Jeff), her grandchildren; Daniel, Esther, Joel (Karen) Katie (Scott), Melissa, Joline, Samuel, Nathanael, Etaniah, Jessica, Joseph, Benjamin, Jordan and David and her first great grandchild Mackenzie born just this year.

Born and raised in Toronto, Thelma moved to Richmond Hill in 1952 with Ernest, and lived in their new home for over 50 years. They loved to garden and together they beautified the bare yard with flowers, trees and ornamental shrubs. The children arrived in the early 60s and Thelma was a doting mom who was involved in her children’s activities. Thelma was also an active member of Richvale Bible Chapel playing piano at Sunday services for many decades. She was always happy to help in her community. Thelma had a love for learning and kept current with the news and the medical trends of the day.

A number of years after Ernest’s death (2001) Thelma developed dementia. With the help of her children she managed to stay at home until she moved to Union Villa seniors’ home in Markham. At Union Villa Thelma was known for sense of humor, her ever present newspapers and for the grace and dignity she displayed while living with her illness. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the staff who helped, cajoled and entertained mom in many big and small ways over the last 5 years.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Camp Medeba, a non-profit camp for kids, or Alzheimer Society of Canada, for research or a charity that is special to yourself.
