FENNEY, Kenneth George 'Ken' - Born September 5, 1946, Passed away on December 6, 2019 at Credit Valley Hospital, Palliative Care after a courageous battle with cancer.
He fought to the end, never giving up, always positive and never complaining. His amazing outlook on life, humour, kindness, and caring nature always came through. To his many friends and family, he was larger than life.
Survived by his wife and best friend of 45 years, Connie and brothers Ron (Susan), Rick (Anne), all of London, and loved uncle to several nephews and nieces.
Remembered by lifelong friends from Oakridge Acres (London) the Oakridge Boys, Don Mahar, Richard Cowburn, and Ian Rush (1996). Predeceased by his parents Helen and George Fenney.
Ken graduated from Oakridge Secondary School (London) and St. Clair College (Windsor). He was an All-Star football player with the London Lords in the early 1970s, an avid sailor/cruiser, member of Port Credit YC, and a PADi dive instructor. After retirement in 2002, he and Connie sailed their beloved boat, OZ from Lake Ontario to the US and throughout the Bahamas and Cuba for 16 winters.
Ken was in sales in the factory automation industry and after retirement, he worked summers at West Marine and Fogh’s Marine Store. He passed on his vast sailing experience and the challenges of live-aboard cruising life to many rookie sailors and cruisers who owe Ken (and his stories) their eventual expertise in sailing.
He loved to do home renovation projects at his home and many friends benefited from his bag of tools coming up their driveways! There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do, even telling Connie not to buy something because “he could make it better."
Other than his time on OZ, he loved his home in Port Credit where they lived for the past 28 years. Ken loved all things Nautical, Navy, NCIS and read all of Lee Child and Baldacci novels. He was a true Renaissance Man.
Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation in Ken’s name, may do so to either the Jr. Learn to Sail Program, Port Credit Yacht Club, or the Carlo Fidani Peel Regional Cancer Centre. All donations will be appreciated by the family,
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at later date. Arrangements with Skinner and Middlebrook funeral home, Mississauga.
