Carney DeniseCARNEY, Denise Ann (nee O’Shaughnessy)We lost an incredible woman. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Denise Carney, in her 89th year.

She was the cherished wife of the late Robert Carney (married 67 years) who passed away on January 25th of this same year.

She died peacefully at Humber River Hospital on Monday, December 9, 2019, always surrounded by her 7 children and family during the last 5 months which were mostly spent in hospital; everyday one of us were with her, right up until she passed away.

Denise will be deeply missed by all those who had the honour of knowing her and privileged to have called her wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, aunt, sister, friend. She will be remembered for her genuine thoughtfulness and kindness, faith in God, love for her family, humility and selflessness.

Denise had unwavering love and pride for her family of 7 children and 31 grand children: Denis and Leslie (Drew (Chelsea), Laura); Steve and Deborah (Rob, Shaun (Tammy), Christopher (Keira)); Pat and Joe (O’Brien) (John (Natasha), Matt); Kevin and Chris (James (Kimmy), Bryan (Stephie), Stephen (Eden)); Paul (Keri, Jordan, Nathan); John (Amanda (Brenden), Jaclyn); Nancy and Scott (Cunningham) (James (Melissa), Jordan (Karen), Jason (Amelia), Shannon, Kristyn).

And her 16 adorable great-grandchildren: Kennedy, Ivy, Sophie, Gabriel, Kaiya, Emma, Kayde, Laurel, Jack, Liam, Madelyn, Austin, Kipton, Joel, Brooke and her newest great grandson Baby Payton who came extra-early this past week to ensure she got to see him… and when she saw his pictures, she said “he’s just perfect”.

Denise will be truly missed, as the world has shifted on its axis for all of us who loved her. She was one of those very special people, a constant. She was always there, could always be counted on, always interested in everyone’s lives and always remembered to ask about anything special going on, and remarkably, as anyone who knew her could attest, never complained.

The Carney family’s hearts are filled with sorrow with our loss, her presence dearly missed, however beautifully balanced with enormous gratitude for the wonderful life we had with her. We have pure joy knowing she is now with God, happily reunited with her husband Robert (Bob), her sister Kay McGarvey, and her Mother Louise O’Shaughnessy (Nana) and many family and friends who have gone before her.

We cherished her. She was a very special gift to all who were privileged to have known her and be loved by her.

The Carney family wish to sincerely thank the 9th floor nurses and physicians at Humber River Hospital for their exceptional compassionate care they provided our mother during her time under their care.

Yes, we say goodbye to a truly beautiful, selfless and exceptional lady.

Resting at the Newediuk funeral home, Kipling chapel, 2058 Kipling Avenue (north of Rexdale Boulevard), on Thursday, December 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Transfiguration of Our Lord Church, 45 Ludstone Drive, on Friday, December 13th at 10:30am. Reception immediately following in the church hall followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery.
