Gallone ArmandoGALLONE, Armando - Peacefully passed on Monday September 14, 2020 in his 97th year, surrounded by family in his home.

For all who had the pleasure of knowing Armando ‘Nonno Mondo’, we remember his one of a kind personality; positivity about life, gratitude for each day, and always accepting of a good plate of spaghetti.

One of his greatest accomplishments and sources of pride is his family comprised of over 50 lucky people who were and are his immediate loved ones.

Loving husband to the late Maria Gallone, that he’s been waiting to join in heaven after 20 years of missing her.

Cherished father to Vittoria Vettese (late Antonio Vettese), the late Antonio Gallone, Alberico Gallone (Margie), Ted Gallone (Debbie), Tina Comparelli (Jerry), and Patricia Granata (Rudy).

He will be greatly missed by his 13 grandchildren that reside in both Italy and Canada; Valeria (Gaetano), Gianni (Silvia), Raffaele (Mirella), Clementina, Tony, Shannon (Sean), Daniella (Tom), Alicia, Christina (Adam), Melissa (Phil), Bobby (Amanda), Adriana (Phillip) and Bianca.

He was also blessed to have the opportunity to watch his family grow and enjoy his 19 great-grandchildren. They will forever be lucky to remember the joy that was knowing Nonno Mondo their great-grandfather.

Armando was born May 31st, 1923 in Avezzano, Italy to late parents Cesare Gallone and Ludovina Romita, later followed by his only brother, Sergio Gallone.

He was a WWII veteran, often sharing his stories of Italy during and after the war when he helped to re-build the then destructed Monte Cassino. He Immigrated to Canada in his 40’s, with his son Antonio joining him shortly, thereafter, followed by the rest of the family. They built a life on a quaint crescent in Richmond Hill, making their very unique mark as the only Italians on the street.

Armando would often reflect on his time in both Italy and in Canada, the ups and downs, but most importantly how it all started with the love of his life, Maria. Living fully to the beautiful age of 97 comes with the opportunity to watch your family grow the way he did. As he enters the gates of heaven there is no doubt that he will make a grand entrance (like he always has), smiling and waving to all of those who passed before him. Those who will be there to greet him, like his family now, have missed his kindness, jokes, and deep love for all. Heaven is so lucky right now. Armando your charisma and special power to bring everyone together will forever be missed by us all. He will be forever in our hearts as “The People's Nonno,” Nonno Mondo.

Due to COVID-19, a funeral mass with limited attendance will be held at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church Richmond Hill on Friday September 18th. The church services will be available for everyone on livestream at 10:30am on YouTube, SMI parish. He will then be laid to rest at Thornhill.
