BURR, Marion 'June' (nee Stanek) - Passed away peacefully at McCowan Retirement Residence Thursday October 15, 2020 with beloved husband George at her side.
Born March 7, 1925 in London, ON, she grew up with brother and sisters in the house their father built. There, June got friendly with paper boy George, who stopped to chat so long that neighbours complained about their late paper delivery!
We have many happy memories of gathering there for big family events, and playing in the back lane, the big pear tree and garden, and in the fall leaves.
June went to Farmerette camp during the war, and worked as a book keeper before marriage to George in 1947. They lived in London, North Bay, Toronto, and Dayton, settling in Scarborough in a newly built house in 1954, which they only vacated in 2018. Zion-Wexford United Church and the UCW soon became a big part of her life, and she was their book keeper well into her 90s. She never let a penny go astray. Many lifelong friends were made at the church.
June adored daughters Diane and Linda, and embraced their families and her grandchildren, with trips to Ottawa and Victoria BC. She adopted friends’ children as well, always taking the opportunity to give and to love. No small portion of the clutter at Blaisdale Road comprised stashes of presents she had picked up with people in mind.
June took up yoga and tai chi, dec art painting, and Christmas Village collection. June and George enjoyed family cottage holidays at Mindemoya, on Manitoulin Island, and in recent years, the Toronto Dickens Fellowship, eating out, and going to the theatre with friends. She loved to garden and was an outstanding cook, baker and preserver of jams and chilis; her standard spoiled us for anything else.
We wish we could gather to celebrate and remember this elegant lady, and mourn her loss. All who met her commented on her kindness and wonderful friendliness, not to mention her fabulous flowered straw hat. We've all been inspired by seeing June and George, always together, and by their strength and dignity. Our love goes with her, as we know her love is with us.
June was predeceased by parents Nell and Jack Stanek, sisters Jean, Marge and Marie, and is survived by brother Robert, husband George, daughters Diane (Arnie) and Linda, grandchildren Mira, Sebastian and Alice, and great grandson Sasha.
Arrangements entrusted with Paul O'Connor funeral home, Scarborough. In lieu of flowers we suggest donation to Salvation Army or a charity of choice.
