Karamitanis IliasKARAMITANIS, Ilias - On Saturday, November 28, 2020, at the age of 90, beloved husband, father, Papou, and Propappous, Ilias Karamitanis passed away peacefully.

Loving husband of Pakomia for 67 years, father of Sophie (Michael) and Peter (Paula) and beloved Papou to Stephanie (Scott), Maria (Irem), Ilias (Alexandra), Alexis (Scott) and Jiulia and Propappous to Charlie, James, Lily and Riley.

Ilias was predeceased by his beloved wife, Pakomia.

Ilias was born in 1930 in the village of Armenochori, in the Northern region of Greece near Florina. He was born to a farming family and spent his formative years as the eldest child, learning to manage the family farm, which they managed on a subsistence basis throughout the Great Depression and World War II with German Occupation.

After the war and serving in the Greek army, he tired of the farming life and sought jobs in both Belgium and Germany where he traveled to find a better life. Ilias never lost his love of gardening and spoke German at every opportunity.

Ilias married Pakomia in 1951 and was a doting husband until the end.

He moved with his family to Canada in 1966 and truly loved the lifestyle that Canada afforded him.

The thing he loved most was being at home with his family.

Ilias will forever be remembered for his good nature, friendly manner and storytelling.

A special thank you to his caregivers at North York General Hospital, especially the nurses, staff and doctors on 5 West.

Due to restrictions, Ilias will be buried in a private funeral service on Tuesday, December 1. The family expects to host a celebration of life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers please feel welcome to send donations in Ilias’ memory to either North York General Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
