Kempmann JohannesKEMPMANN, Johannes - November 12, 1930 - December 3, 2020 - Passed away peacefully at Ehatare Nursing Home after a brief illness on December 3, 2020, at the age of 90.

Johannes was born on November 12, 1930 in Tallinn, Estonia.

Beloved father of Harry (Monica) and Ellen (Steve) and “Vanaisa” to Alex.

Also survived by many nephews, nieces and friends in Canada, Estonia, and Finland.

Predeceased by his cherished wife of over 61 years, Aino, and his son Paul.

Hannes spent the first 13 years of his life at his family home, Jaanimardi, in Viinistu. Like so many other Estonians, he escaped to the west with only part of his immediate family in a small fishing boat in September, 1944. He made his way through Finland to Sweden where he and his family stayed for several years before finally making their way to Canada. Johannes eventually settled in Toronto to be closer to his siblings after living briefly in Quebec.

Johannes met Aino at a Finnish Social Club Dance. The couple married, and had two sons and a daughter. Johannes worked at Canada Packers for many years until his retirement and their life was filled with BBQs, family parties, camping, fishing, and travelling. His easy-going nature, dedication to his family, willingness to help a friend or neighbour and his sweet tooth will never be forgotten.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at Ehatare Retirement and Nursing Home for caring for all our loved ones (especially the Candy Man) and keeping them safe during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Ehatare are appreciated.

A private graveside service will be held, with a Celebration of Life at a later date when it is safe for us to be together.
