Nadaraju ManikumNADARAJU, Dr Manikum - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Manikum Nadaraju (1935-2021).

His suffering has eased following a long battle with a terminal neurological disease (PSP).

He passed away with his family nearby on January 8, 2021 at the age of 85.

His stubbornness allowed him to win a battle with lung cancer in 2010 and enjoy more years of travelling with his wonderful wife and extra time with his grandchildren.

“Dr Nad” as he was so commonly referred to, grew up on a sugarcane farm near Durban, South Africa with 12 brothers and sisters.

He trained as a doctor at the University of Natal, graduating in 1964 and then married his soulmate in 1966.

Seven years and three children later Dhana (Mano) and Nad left Verulam, South Africa to find a new home and freedom in Canada. Together they gave their kids a new beginning and a chance at a better life. Before Dr Nad left South Africa he had delivered hundreds of babies and he continued that trend in Canada, along with maintaining his regular practice as a GP. He met and affected the lives of hundreds of individuals and families in Canada. Some of those even became close family friends.

If he could have, he would have spent all his time with his grandkids - Tarun, Devan, Sunil, Sofia, Anna, and Ellie.

When he had time to himself his favourite hobby was fishing, anywhere.

He will be dearly missed by Mano, who after 54 years of marriage stood by his side to the end.

He had a great smile and a humble demeanour but was ready with fire when it came to politics and any sense of unfairness to those less fortunate in life. He kept his promises and was a man of his word. He was also caring, quiet, and down-to-earth.

He will be remembered with great love and affection by Devan, Vani, Praveen, Jennifer, Paul, his grandkids, and all those whose lives he touched.
