Schubertt KartSCHUBERT, Karl - Entered rest peacefully with family at his bedside on Sunday, January 10, 2021. A holy dignified graceful passing into the loving arms of the Lord at Villa Colombo Vaughan.

Predeceased by his loving wife Eva (Neidert), Karl was a devoted Papa to daughter Erika Ellen Balicki and husband Michael Balicki of King City and his son Frederick Philip Schubert of Ottawa.

Opa cherished his dedicated grandchildren, Alanna Balicki and Larissa Balicki, relishing many memorable years with them.

Proud of his traditional German Bohemian family heritage, Karl grew up an avid skier and lover of the mountains and forests in Reichenberg Czechoslovakia.

Predeceased by his beloved family including father, Frederick Schubert, mother Hermine (Trappschuh) and sister Louise (Knebel), they immigrated to Canada in 1948 by ship to Pier21 and their new home in southern Ontario. As farm hands in the Simcoe tobacco growing area, Karl met the love of his life Eva dancing at the German Hungarian Canadian Club in Delhi.

In 1951 they married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Cambridge (Galt) and along with their parents made this area home for over fifty years. Karl co-founded the Continental German Canadian Club and acted as its President for many years. Respected by many for his tireless dedication as a volunteer, he will always be remembered for his charismatic selfless kind-hearted spirit and infectious smile.

For health reasons, Karl and Eva moved to King City to live with their daughter’s family in 2003 and became members of the Sacred Heart Church community.

In June 2015 Karl settled into the LTC home Villa Colombo Vaughan. The family is sincerely grateful and thankful for the compassionate loving palliative care provided by VCV staff during his last days with them.

Karl was an immensely proud benefactor of his son Fred’s vocation as a Christian Street Missionary and Trauma Addiction Therapist in Ottawa. He supported his not-for-profit charitable foundation for many years. Memorial donations can be sent to Our Lady of His Mercy in Ottawa as detailed under Donations below.

A private funeral service will be held at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, King City, followed by Interment. Karl’s Celebration of Life event will take place in the future.
