Hughson ErnestHUGHSON, Ernest  -  With heavy hearts the family of Ernest David Hughson announce his passing, on Sunday, January 24, 2021.

Ernest was born in Toronto, on July 23, 1925 to Ruth (Running) and Ernest.

He was the oldest of three, Ilean Roberts (deceased) and Elsie Poce Biegler.

Ernest enlisted in the Army in 1943 and saw action in Italy and Holland with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment. He later served with the Queen's Own Rifles.

Upon his return to Toronto, he became a Sheetmetal worker and for 40 years he was a HVAC wizard.

He married his one true love Evelyn Robertson in 1960 and soon Cathie and John arrived, all settling in the west end.

For 20 of those years his son's family lived across the street where Ernie got to play a very big role in his grandchildren's lives. John and daughter-in-law Britt Atchison, Mack and Claire were very thankful to have him as a neighbour.

His second home was in Winnipeg where Cathie, son-in-law George Hutfluss, grandkids Katie and Alec welcomed him to their cottage on Jessica Lake where he made new friends and had many adventures.

His family would like to send their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of L Wing, Veterans Centre where they made his last few months very comfortable.

There will be a celebration of life once things improve and if you so wish, donations can be sent to Grant a Wish Program at the Sunnybrook Veteran's Centre.
