Chouinard GastonCHOUINARD, Joseph Ovide 'Gaston' - (May 8, 1959 - February 20, 2021) - A Good Guy, A Loving Husband and A Loyal Friend

With love and sadness, the family and friends of Gaston Chouinard mourn his sudden passing of natural causes on Saturday February 20, 2021.

He is survived and missed by his wife Connie Chandler, the large Chouinard and Chandler families and his many friends.

Born into a large, loving family and raised in Guyenne in northern Quebec, Gaston was predeceased by his mother Adrienne Chénard, father Benoît Chouinard and is survived by his siblings Marie-Reine, Louisette, Ghislaine, Yves, Yvon, Nicole (Jean-Charles Ouellet), Denise and André Baillargeon (Micheline Breton).

While living in Riviere du Loup, and in typical Gaston fashion, he stopped to help a stranded fellow ski-dooer who was impressed with his can-do attitude and offered him a job as a roofer in Toronto. Later he became a roofing contractor operating his own business for many years. In Ontario, he soon met Connie and fell in love with her and her large Chandler family.

He met his life-long friend Eric while attending a heavy-duty mechanics course at Centennial College, and it was Eric who stood by his side as best man when he married his love Connie more than 27 years ago. With the Chandlers he quickly joined in cottage life and loved the fishing and boating expeditions. His many vehicles were a passion and with his good buddy Ted he made the annual trek to Indy for many years.

Gaston is survived by Carole (Carmen Sisto), Joe, Steve, Ted (Eva), Bob (Nancy), Veronica (Norm MacNeil) and Richard (Clara) who mourn the loss of their “brother” Gaston and his many nieces and nephews who fondly remember countless fun times with Uncle Gaston. A special tradition was decorating his truck with lights and music at Christmas time with his nephews. His Godchild Alex held a special place in his heart.

The world lost a good guy. Gaston was a resourceful problem solver, an admitted collector and saver of many things, a man who was always willing to help, who worked hard and was willing to try and fix or build anything, who loved to laugh and have a good time, a man who was friendly with everyone and valued people first. He enjoyed road trips with Connie, especially the ones that that led to family in Quebec. He enjoyed quiet evenings at home, cooking on the barbecue, sipping a beer and watching the fire or the TV. Friends and family were always welcome to drop in any time.

In the neighbourhood of Rodda, people are missing friendly Gaston walking his doting dog Milo and stopping for a chat. He would be so appreciative of the special help they are giving to Connie and Milo at this time.

Due to Covid-19, an interment of his ashes and a Celebration of Life will be at a later date when family and friends can gather once again. Arrangements entrusted with Giffen-Mack funeral home, Scarborough chapel.

If desired a memorial donation may be made to The Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
