Krieger AnneKRIEGER, Anne - (April 7, 1921 - March 4, 2021) - Anne Krieger was born on the Prairies in Limerick, Saskatchewan, in 1921, and passed away in Toronto a century later.

Anne grew up in the rural town of 300, where her parents ran the general store. She left Limerick to study nursing at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Upon graduation, Anne moved to Toronto and studied public health at the University of Toronto.

She met the love of her life, Arthur Krieger, on a tennis court in 1948. They married the following year and welcomed their children, Susan and David, in the early 1950s.

Anne took up the role of a homemaker for about a decade before returning to work as a public health nurse in Etobicoke in 1963 on the day of U.S. President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

Anne became a widow with the loss of her husband in 1971. Being a strong independent spirit, she adapted to single life and began travelling the world on her own, visiting such far-flung destinations as China, the Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Tahiti, New Zealand and North Africa.

Upon her retirement from nursing in 1985, she purchased a condo in Sarasota, Florida, and spent winters there, creating many amazing memories with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved spending time there too. She continued to enjoy the warmth of the Gulf Coast until her mid-90s.

Arthur and Anne made their home in South Etobicoke from 1951, and she resided there for more than 60 years. A social butterfly, Anne loved hosting family and friends and dining out. She was always a “downtown girl,” attending the symphony, opera and film festivals, and finally moved to an apartment in the heart of the action. She spent her last few years in Briton House retirement residence.
