Jalsevac MarieJALSEVAC, Marie Metje (Smit) - 97, died a peaceful death May 2, 2021 at Providence Centre in Scarborough, ON.

She was born Sept. 18, 1923 to Stephen and Catherine Smit in Rotterdam, Zuid, The Netherlands.

She was a very energetic source of life and generosity amongst her 10 Dutch brothers and sisters and their families and amongst her own immediate family, and a life-long lover of music and singing.

Marie was also much loved by her many nieces and nephews. She treasured her Catholic faith and frequently advocated its benefits to others.

She has gone to meet her husband of 65 years, John, who was a Canadian soldier when they met in Holland at the end of WWII. They married in 1946 in Leeuwarden, a city and municipality in Friesland in the Netherlands.

Marie emigrated to Canada with John and all but one of her family followed her to the new country. Marie was a loving, proud and very generous mother to Stephen and Bonnie, Philip and Moiya, Jim, Anna Marie and Ken Stapleton, John Jr. and Joanne, Annette Kathleen, Rosemarie and Annette Marie.

Marie treasured all her grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Special gratitude is extended to the staff of Providence Center for their compassionate and loving care of Marie these past 5 years. May she rest in peace.

The family deeply regrets that the funeral is restricted to only 9 invited persons due to COVID restrictions. It would otherwise have been a large celebration of her very active life.
