Gasparec JanGASPAREC, Jan - Our hero, our friend, my beloved father, loving husband passed away unexpectedly at the age of 70 on the morning of Sunday May 2, 2021.

Jan Gasparec, of Toronto, Canada was born to his parents Jan and Jurina Gasparec on August 23, 1950 in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Fifty one years ago he fell head over heels in love with Marta Szekylova at the local skating rink, mesmerized watching her elegantly skate by. Five years later they married in the medieval city of Bratislava, Slovakia on April 26, 1975.

On May 13, 1976 to a world of joy they brought a bundle of cuteness - their one and only child Tomas Gasparec.

Jan graduated from Prague University with a degree in Film Production and pursued his career in the Slovak movie industry, once featuring his toddler son Tomas.

The family made the ultimate sacrifice to leave all their family and friends behind to escape communist Slovakia to give their son a chance at better life.

In 1981, risking imprisonment and even worse their lives, Jan, Marta, Tomas and close friends managed to escape to refugee camps in Italy. They worked laboriously in the fields for 4 months in Italy to save enough money to finally be given the privilege to move to Canada at a shot for a better life.

Jan’s life has been a prime example of how one should live and love in a family.
Jan did what he had to do to provide for his family and put food on the table becoming a Drywall Lather in the commercial construction industry.

Jan loved spending time with family, nurturing them with many important aspects of life.
Jan instilled a dedicated worth ethic: “You get back what you put in” which teaches you to value everything you have and do in life.

Jan cherished playing soccer and hockey with his friends and colleagues while teaching his boy many sports during the same time.

Jan looked forward, each time, to the joy of traveling with his family and friends on vacations to Caribbean to seek the sun and ocean, and to Europe to ski and visit family members. The family and friends made many unforgettable memories.

Jan was loved by many but none more than his wife and son who respected him and loved him dearly for being such a dedicated, intelligent, honest and loving husband and father.
He sacrificed his years doing good for his family & friends, without wanting or expecting anything in return.

Jan is survived by his wife Marta Gasparec, his son Tom Gasparec (wife Jenny Gonzalez), his mother-in-law Irma Szekelyova, his nephews Marek Gasparec and Juro Gasparec, and great nephews who love him. He was preceded in death by his parents Jan and Jurina Gasparec, his brother Peter Gasparec, and his father in-law Oscar Szekely and sister in-law Eva Szekelyova.

In memory of Jan Gasparec, with no obligation, please feel free to donate to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Arrangements, RSVP and livestream funeral details are entrusted with Ridley funeral home.
