Ferreira RufinoFERREIRA, Rufino Agnelo - Of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2021, at the age of 80, spending his last moments with his dearly loved family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Maria Nazare Ferreira; his cherished children Berta (Jose), Helena, and Michael (Judy); and his adoring grandchildren, Ashley (Larry), Jessica (Tiago), and Michael.

Rufino was born May 30th, 1941, in the village of São Sebastião, Angra do Heroismo, Terceira, Açores, Portugal.

Married in 1965 to his beloved wife Maria Nazare, they settled and made a home in the village of São Bento, Angra do Heroismo, Terceira, Açores, Portugal.

In Portugal, Rufino led a life of service. Serving first in the Portuguese Army - including a tour of duty overseas in Angola, he then joined the Public Security Police, the national civil police force of Portugal, in 1967; where he served proudly until 1980.

Impacted by the 1980 Azores Islands earthquake, Rufino immigrated to Canada to start a new life with his cherished family. He settled in Toronto, Ontario where he, like many other immigrants, worked multiple jobs to support and raise his family. He remained in Toronto until his final days.

Relatives and friends are welcomed at Bernardo Funeral Homes,Dufferin Chapel, Toronto on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. Due to the Covid-19 capacity restrictions, visitations are limited to a specified number invited of attendees. 

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 9:30am at St. Anthony’s Church (1041 Bloor St. West. Toronto). Due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions, attendees must RSVP in advance to attend the funeral mass.  Entombment to follow.
