Nero MarioNERO, Mario - Mario Nero was born on June 9, 1947, to Emilio Nero (Father) and Maria Onofrio (Mother) in Puglianello, Benevento.

He married Eleonora in Italy on September 20, 1970, and had two children Maria and Emilio. He became the proud and loving Nonno of Johnathon in 1997 and Michelina in 1999.

At the age of 74, our deeply loved husband, father, and Nonno passed away at Scarborough General Hospital on July 11, 2021 at 15:25 due to complications following five days in a coma.

Mario was a Dagmar construction worker for over 30 years before early retirement in 1992; due to back and knee injuries.

He spent his free time gardening, hunting, and fishing. He also had a passion for going on road trips to Niagara Falls to pick fresh fruits and vegetables. In his younger years, he enjoyed taking his wife and children to Saint memorials for picnics. He attended Saint Lawrence Martyr Church.

In December of 2019, he was diagnosed with stage three lung cancer, which was treated with aggressive radiation. Cancer then spread to his lymph nodes and hip, which were then also treated with radiation. During this time with very little mobility, Mario found joy in creating pictures, colouring, playing cards, and ‘driving’ his beloved scooter.

On July 6, 2021, he suffered from a seizure, then heart failure, which deprived his brain of oxygen. These events led to five days in a coma on life support. On July 11, 2021, Mario passed away alongside his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He will be remembered for his teasing jokes, old-time stories, and quirky personality. He had a sweet tooth for Kit-Kats and Boston cream doughnuts; which he loved to eat with his morning cup of coffee. Loved; for his amazing smile and the twinkle in his eyes lit up every room.

He had a way of understanding what loved ones wanted to say without them having to say anything at all. If anyone needed him he would be there. His love reached not only our hearts but also our souls.

Gone, but not forgotten. Arrangements entrusted with Ogden funeral home, Scarborough.
