Melaragno MariaMELARAGNO, Maria Lucia - God has called Maria home to walk with the angels. Maria Lucia Melaragno (nee Mazzocco) passed away on July 16, 2021 months shy of her 90th birthday.

She is predeceased by her parents, Carmela and Michele, her siblings, Ernesto, Ida, and Mario, and her loving husband of 56 years, Alfio.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carmela and Amedeo, three grandchildren, Daniel, Marlina (Chris), and Michael (Monika), and five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Massimo, Dante, Alicia, and Olivia.

Maria was born in Forli del Sannio, province of Isernia, Italy in 1931. She married the love of her life, Alfio, in 1951 after a brief courtship. It was love at first sight after he saw Maria hard at work with her father and two older brothers. She moved to Canada in 1967 for a better life with her husband and young daughter. She worked briefly in a clothing factory until retiring to help her daughter raise her own children.

Maria’s love knew no bounds and she had a strong sense of duty and devotion. She lovingly cared for her ailing father-in-law Natale, and later her husband, and then son-in-law. Maria was happiest surrounded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately called her “Nonna Ia”; she took great pride in their successes. She would often be found in her garden tending to her vegetables and various herbs. Maria was always happy to help and loved to feel needed. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, and will live on forever in our hearts!

O God, good and merciful Father, you who chose Anthony as a witness of the Gospel and messenger of peace in the midst of your people, hear the prayer we address to you through his intercession.
Sanctify every family, help them grow in faith; preserve them in unity, peace and serenity. Bless our children, protect our young people. Support those who are being tried by illness, suffering and loneliness.

Support us in life’s every day hardships, and giving us your love. Amen.

Arrangements and livestreamed funeral mass and entombment details are entrusted with Scott funeral home, Woodbridge chapel.
