VIKIC, Mirjana - It is with heartbreak and disbelief that we announce the sudden passing of beautiful Mirjana Vikic at the young age of 56. Mirjana courageously overcame cancer more than once, ultimately taking her last breath on July 14, 2021 at Toronto’s Princess Margaret Hospital, with her devoted daughter by her side.
Mirjana was a selfless single mother and her love for her daughter Slavica was truly inspiring. Her goal in life was to make sure Slavica was happy.
In 1998 Mirjana immigrated from Croatia to Canada in the hopes of giving Slavica a brighter future. At age 7 Slavica quickly made friends at her new school and learned English, teaching her mother the language. Mirjana went on to earn a certificate in Early Childhood Education and worked at many schools across the city.
Mirjana was a true fighter and she overcame many obstacles and did so with a positive attitude and a smile on her face. She was a strong, selfless person with a zest for life shown through her love of salsa dancing and the meaningful connections she made everywhere she went. Mirjana was also a creative soul with a talent for handmade crafts, which she shared with many.
Mirjana is survived by her daughter Slavica, sister Ljiljana (Jugo), uncles Mladen, Ratko and Josip, aunts Josipa and Zdenka, and cousins Mario (Ljiljana), Monika, Irma, Mia, Toni and Nina, as well as many other relatives. She’s also survived by her dearest childhood friends Mirjana, Svetlana and their parents Svetislav and Marija.
Mirjana will be missed by all the wonderful people she shared her smile with but we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her loving parents Josip and Slavica in heaven.
