Allen MurielALLEN, Muriel Florence - (December 29, 1929 – September 8, 2021)

A gentle, loving presence left us on September 8th, 2021.

Muriel Florence Allen died peacefully in her sleep at Amica Peel Village, her home for the past three years.

Despite her declining health, she never lost her loving spirit, or her joy in seeing her friends and beloved family.

We celebrate and remember the ordinary, extraordinary 91-year life of a most loving and lovable woman. Muriel's great gift was friendliness, and a welcoming spirit which valued everyone she met. Muriel was always building bridges, sharing with friends, adoring family, and reaching across gulfs and broken places, to build healing ties.

She trained as a nurse at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg but soon moved to Niagara Falls to work as an industrial health nurse at Kimberly-Clark. It was intended to be a temporary move but there she soon met bright young Jim Allen, who worked in the engineering department, and the rest is a scripted Hollywood forever-after romance. They married in 1953 and were soon blessed with son David and daughter Jeryl.

In 1965, Kimberley-Clark relocated to Etobicoke, and Muriel and Jim moved to the new community of Bramalea. The family attended nearby St. Joseph of Nazareth Anglican Church, and it remained a cornerstone of their lives.

Service was integral to Muriel’s soul throughout her life. In addition to being an occupational nurse, primarily at Kimberly-Clark, she volunteered with The Chapel Group at the Vanier Women's Detention Centre in Brampton. She worked at Information Brampton, orienting people new to the community. A caring practitioner of Therapeutic Touch, Muriel freely gave with her heart and with her hands. In honour of her long service at Heart House Hospice, she won the prestigious June Callwood medal.

It's impossible not to speak of Muriel and her Jim as a unit. In recent days, she had been speaking of a need to go home to Jim, a reunion with her husband of 67 years. They were the delighted parents of David (Clare) and Jeryl Phillips (Bob) and their adored grandchildren Erin (Thomas), Cameron (Jenn), Laura (Long), Caroline (Chloe), and John (Shea). She is mourned and missed by her sister Beverley Connors (Bob), and her brother Victor Henrikson (Vicki), who also look forward to that grand reunion. Loved and never forgotten, her caring spirit will continue in the family she raised and guided.

Arrangements are entrusted with Andrews funeral home, Brampton. Due to the current situation, a private family funeral service will be held. The family thanks you for keeping them in your thoughts and prayers.

As an expression of sympathy, carrying on her love of volunteering and service, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph of Nazareth Anglican Church in Brampton or Heart House Hospice.
