Perreira SoniaPERREIRA, Sonia (nee VIEIRA)   - Sonia Perreira (Vieira) passed away peacefully on September 6, 2021 in Newmarket after a two and a half year battle with cancer.

Predeceased by her parents Evarist Vieira and Maria Patricia "Patsy" Vieira (Rodrigues), Sonia is survived by Clive Perreira, her loving husband of 48 years, her three adoring children Jason, Gerard and Julia, their partners Stacy, Pamela and Andrew, her beloved grandchildren, Eva and Nathan, her 10 siblings, Clive's three siblings and their respective families.

Born in Georgetown, Guyana in 1955, Sonia immigrated to Canada in 1972; she married Clive and started their family the following year. Sonia worked a variety of jobs over but her real passion was baking.

Many of her nieces, nephews, friends and friends of friends were lucky enough to get Sonia Perreira Original wedding cakes, though she never had the heart to charge for her services, in spite of her immense talent.

Sonia lived a life of service to God, her family and her community. Her warmth and generosity of spirit radiated to anyone who moved into her orbit.

She had a gift for care, making those in her charge feel safe and comfortable. Sonia loved cooking, gardening and Costco.

She and Clive lived in their Newmarket home for 30 years and worked hard to create a garden oasis for the neighbourhood cardinals, woodpeckers and even blue jays, even though they were, according to Sonia, "a little bit greedy." Her home was an oasis to human visitors as well.

Right to the end of Sonia's life, no one who walked through her front door left hungry, cold or unloved.

The family would like to thank Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket for their compassion and grace in Sonia's final weeks and asks family and friends to consider a donation to the Hospice in Sonia's name, in lieu of flowers. https://www.myhospice.ca/support-my-hospice/.
