Fijalkowski RichardFIJALKOWSKI, Richard Andrew - Passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021.

Richard was born in Hrubieszow, Poland, to the late Antoni and Aurelia (Radomska) Fijalkowski. He grew up during WWII Poland where he was abruptly taken as a prisoner of war along with his parents and cherished sisters Aldona and Isabel to a Siberian work camp by the Soviet forces.

At the conclusion of WWII, Richard and his family immigrated to England. On December 18, 1951 his family set sail on the Canberra ship of the Greek Line from Southampton to Halifax to start their new life in Canada. They settled in Toronto with the help of their extended Migas family members.

Richard worked in a grocery store and then accepted a job at William Neilson Ltd. on August 30, 1955.

Richard proudly became a Canadian citizen in 1958 and was an exemplary example of a resilient immigrant who strived to contribute to his new homeland through hard work and education.

Richard’s greatest love was his family, and he would do anything for them.

He married Christina Kusior and had 2 daughters, Joanne and Diane. He treated his son-in-law Joe Bowie as his own.

His grandchildren Connor and Haley were precious to him. He was a wonderful and supportive brother to his sisters Aldona (Walter) Slomiany and Isabel (Casimer) Krajewsky. Our hearts are broken with his passing but his spirit and the gifts that he brought to our lives will live on in our hearts.

Visitation will take place at G.H. Hogle Funeral Home, Toronto on Wednesday October 13, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday October 14, at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church, 277 Park Lawn Rd. Toronto. Richard will be laid to rest at Toronto.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to High Park Nature Centre www.highparknaturecentre.com/ or, Friends of High Park Zoo www.highparkzoo.ca/.
