FLORIO, Vito 'Vic' - Passed away October 14, 2021 at the age of 83.
He was in bed, at home, no suffering, watching sports on television.
Most knew him as Victor/Vic, but he adopted that name as a youngster working in Canada.
Vito was born in Modugno, Italy to Dominic and Angela Florio, he was the 2nd youngest of 5: Cosmo, Joe, Frances, Tony.
He worked his Grandfather's vegetable, fruits and olive farms, went to elementary school, and did some blacksmithing.
He had a loving family, yet decided to leave Italy at the age of 16. He turned 17 in February on that boat ride to Halifax, emigrating to Canada and settling shortly in Toronto East with his elder brother Joe whom previously came to Canada.
He learned some simple English working at a gas station immediately, then started new home construction as a foundation apprentice with a plethora of other immigrants.
At this point he could read and speak English well enough to apply for factory work and was hired on at Neilson's Chocolate in Toronto’s west end....He met his wife Vera of 50+years there working on the line, worked hard earning promotions and retired as the Moulding Floor Supervisor of 33years.
His immediate family grew even tighter after Vera passed, he opened up a bit more, was less reserved.
Victor also leaves heavy hearts in very, very many loved Nieces and Nephews and their own children and cousins across Canada and Italy…too many to name without the disrespect of missing one.
Visitation will be held at Lynett Funeral Home, Toronto on October 20th. The service will take place in the chapel on October 21st.
