LEE, Alfred Shiu Kee - (22 June, 1931 – 15 October, 2021) -

Mr. Lee was born in Hong Kong in 1930. He recalled when the date was registered, his birth year was erroneously recorded as 1931, therefore he had lived a long life of 91 years. He is the fourth child, and the third son in the family.

His younger years were happy and uneventful, until the Japanese invasion of Asia in the late 1930s. He recalled the family had to liquidate much of their belongings and relocate to Macau for safety.

His father, the late Yuk Sum Lee decided to rent a flat close to the Ruins of St Paul Cathedral. He fell in love with the landlord's daughter Louk Yeap Yung, who later become his wife. They were married in Hong Kong after the war and have four children, Hermann (Monita), Teresa (Thomas), Barbara and Raymond (Cecilia).

Louk Yeap worked as a midwife but continued her studies and become a registered nurse at Kwong Wah Hospital in Kowloon. In Hong Kong, Alfred worked as a clerk initially and opened his import and export company, Tack Sang Import and Export Ltd., mainly dealing with high end textile products. Alfred and his wife retired together at 50 years old and immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1980.

The three younger children of Alfred completed their education in Winnipeg, while the eldest son was studying in the USA. Hermann later joined the family in Canada when he graduated in 1985. When the youngest son Raymond graduated from University, Alfred decided to relocate to Toronto, where he lived until his passing in 2021. In his retire life, Alfred enjoys sea cruises immensely. He and his wife travel to many parts of the world on cruise lines 3-5 times yearly. After his wife passed away in 2007, he had continued travel alone with friends. A couple years later, he met Janet Troung who become his companion.

In addition to sea cruising, Alfred and Janet enjoyed the common interest of culinary arts, in both Asian and Western styles. Many friends had the fortune to taste their fine dishes. The cruise holidays continued until the pandemic hits.

One day in summer of 2021, Alfred fell and injured his head. His health went downhill and was admitted to the hospital in September. He passed away peacefully on Oct 15, 2021.

Alfred is remembered as a loving and hardworking father. To all his friends, he is remembered as a consummate chef who is versatile in many styles of cuisines.

Alfred is survived by his two younger brothers Robert Lee and the Hon. Philip Lee (Former Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, wife Anita).

Alfred is missed dearly by his grandchildren Ludwig Lee (Stella), Linus Lee (Doris), Maverick Lee (Cindy), Andrei Lee and Joshua Lau; and great grandchildren Jaxon Lee, Jayden Lee, Emma Lee and Angela Lee.

Arrangements entrusted with Kane-Jerrett funeral home, Thornhill.
