Williams MatthewWILLIAMS, Matthew (SONNY)   - With profound sadness the family announces the passing of Matthew (Sonny) Williams in his 85th year peacefully on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at home surrounded by his loved ones Sonny will be deeply missed by his devoted wife Phyllis of 60 years, his children Stephen and Carol and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Sonny was a kind, noble and gentle soul loved by all who met him.

People were drawn to his quiet decency and judgment-free acceptance.

So much of what mattered in the lives of his family began and ended with Sonny and they were grateful to have had him. So many rewarding long term relationships arose from his lifelong involvement in soccer.

In Scotland with the Academicals and then in Canada with the Toronto Royals and Hearts FC in the T&D league.

He was a great coach and youth mentor for decades with Woburn Wolves and heavily involved in the Robbie Tournaments.

After a long career with Canteen of Canada and then retiring from De Havilland Aerospace his passion turned to golf, which he enjoyed with lifelong and new friends in a Niagara Old Timers Group, providing much enjoyment on and off the course.

At Sonny's request, there will be no funeral service.

Private cremation and Inurnment to take place at the Lakeshore Cemetery, Niagara on the Lake.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army, Royal Canadian Legion or War Amps would be appreciated by the family.
