DArcy BarbaraD'ARCY, Barbara Jean   -  Peacefully and courageously, with her two sons Chris (Carol) and Robert (MaryLynn) at her side, Nan slipped away from us on Saturday, January 22, 2022, in her 95th year.

A long-serving Bell Canada employee, Barbara focused her retirement on her three great loves, her six grandchildren (Alexis, Mason, Beatrice, Alden, Tyrus, and Emmerson), her eight great-grandchildren, and rug hooking.

Together with her partner Bill, Barbara maintained a magical studio loft in her home dedicated to the teaching of the art of traditional rug hooking.

Using her skills as a certified Ontario Rug Hooking teacher, BJ's Studio was the focal point for the introduction to rug hooking for a generation of women and men, many of whom became teachers themselves.

A passionate champion for women, decades before it was prioritized, Barb was a friend and mentor to many including Anne, Kathy, Elaine, Joan, and Belle to name but a few.

Deep appreciation goes to Dr. Arya, Shannon, Scarlett and the palliative care team of North York General's 3 West for their supportive and sensitive care.

Celebration of Life September 30, 2022 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Jubilee United Church 40 Underhill Dr., North York Light refreshments to follow.

On what would have been Barb's 95th birthday, as per her wishes, her family is holding a Celebration of Life ceremony, in lieu of a traditional funeral. We invite you to join us at one of the many locations where Barb shared her love of traditional rug hooking. A private family interment will take place at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to honour Barbara's advocacy of women by inviting those wishing to donate, to do so to Nellie's Place.
