WAITE, Ellen (nee CALLAHAN)    -  Ellen Waite died of Covid-19 on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at Thompson House for Better Living, which had been her home for almost 19 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Arlene Waite, son-in-law, James Coogan, and grandchildren Eliza and Seamus Coogan.

Her husband, Fred Waite, predeceased her in 1987.

Born prematurely in her parent's bed in an outport in Newfoundland to Bertha and John Callahan, Ellen was not expected to live through the night.

To no one's surprise, she outlived her five siblings: Eileen (Jerry Lortie), Blanche, Fred, Elizabeth (Doug Knight) and Arch (Ellen). Ellen also leaves 14 nieces and nephews.

Two friends stuck with her through her very challenging life: her best friend from birth, her sister Betty, and her childhood bosom buddy, Joan Saunders.

In a cruel twist of fate, Ellen was struck with early-onset dementia after a lifelong battle with schizophrenia.

Many thanks to Amelia and the wonderful staff at Thompson House, who cared for Ellen like she was family.

A private family graveside service will take place.

Memorial donations may be made to the CAMH Schizophrenia Division or The Better Living Charitable Foundation. May she finally find peace.
