Matthews JamesMATTHEWS, James "Jim" Brian Mathews   -  September 11, 1947 - July 19, 2022

We are sad to announce that Jim Matthews passed away on Tuesday, July 19, just one month shy of his 50th wedding anniversary.

Jim was the loving husband of Cathy (nee Mulligan); dear father of Ian (Valarie) Matthews, Robert (Lesley) Matthews, and Alison (Jacob) Rutka; and proud grandfather to Leah, Keira, Owen, Benjamin, Penny, Henry and Teddy. He is also sadly missed by cousins, Don Scott and David Scott; and sister-in-law, Sue Woodcock.

Born in Toronto, Jim was a high school teacher who went on to serve as vice principal and principal at many schools in the Toronto Catholic Board.

Continuous learning was a staple of his work life - he earned his BSc, BEd, MEd, and MBA, as well as numerous management and advanced learning certificates.

Jim was also active in his community and parish, volunteering as a Beavers helper, Sunnybrook Hospital guide, and Eucharistic Minister.

Family and friends are invited to join us on Wednesday, July 27 at St. Gabriel's Parish (670 Sheppard Ave. E.) for a visitation (10 a.m.), followed by a Mass (11 a.m.) and light reception (12 p.m.) Private interment.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Parkinson's Canada, in support of finding a cure for the disease that Jim so bravely battled.
